The Navajo training materials encompass presentations, scripts, glossaries, and manuals to enable prospective Navajo candidates to master all aspects of interpretation in a legal setting. This includes ethics, standards, and protocol; specialized legal and medical terminology; strategies of consecutive, sight, and simultaneous interpretation, skills-based practice and evaluation using a wide variety of scripts based on authentic legal scenarios. These materials encompass manuals, oral examinations, as well as a written English examination and a Navajo oral examination used to certify court interpreters in consecutive, sight, and simultaneous interpretation for the states of New Mexico and Arizona. These materials set the standard for NCI Navajo language training in a legal manner.
