Complete Recycling and Utilization of Waste Concrete to Produce New Structural Concrete

Case ID:
UA17-175
Invention:

This invention is a novel process for recycling waste concrete to create a geopolymer concrete. This method provides complete recycling and utilization of waste concrete, both aggregates and fines, to produce a new structural concrete. It does so without the use of conventional energy intensive processes and the large carbon footprint produced by Portland cement.

Background:
Portland cement is commonly used as a binder in the production of concrete. Unfortunately, Portland cement releases greenhouse gases and has a large carbon footprint. Because current methods produce inferior strength and durability, there is a need to recycle waste concrete and simultaneously reduce environmental impact.

Applications:

  • Construction
  • Recycling
  • Waste management

Advantages:

  • Reduced carbon footprint
  • Reduced energy requirements
  • Meets unconfined compressive strength values
  • Reduced quarrying operation costs
