Online Interface to Process Text and Identify Characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in the Text

Case ID:
UA22-168
Invention:

This software allows individuals to submit text and have segments of that text be highlighted and grouped based on if they are diagnostic criteria when testing for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Highlighting is performed based off different criterion and displayed in different colors. There is also a summary count of all criteria found and their frequencies provided via this software.

Background:
The diagnosing process for autism is difficult since there is no medical test that pinpoints the disorder. In order to diagnose ASD doctors, clinicians need to look at a variety of characteristics within an individual, such as childhood developmental history and their behaviors. Along with symptom variation and doctor waitlists, diagnoses can be a tricky and a long process.

This software will greatly assist with this through its ability to evaluate submitted text which in turn generates an output that highlights text that is relevant to ASD diagnosing characteristics. Each of these identified characteristics in the text is highlighted and segmented based on the different criterion for diagnosing these disorders. This will significantly reduce diagnoses times and will be easily implementable across many clinics due to its feasibility.
