This technology is an antiserum that is highly specific for Clostridium difficile. This target is available on all clinically relevant strains of Clostridium difficile bacteria.

 

Background:
Clostridium difficile is a bacteria that causes serious intestinal issues. Each year there are approximately 500,000 cases of Clostridium difficile in the United States, which results in $4 billion in healthcare costs. The key to treating this infection and preventing recurrent infections is early, accurate diagnosis. Unfortunately, individuals with a low quantity of Clostridium difficile or non-toxic strains cannot be identified.
