Human Colon Polyp Derived Organoid

This innovation is a patient-derived organoid that is used as a screening platform to study both tissues patterning and the kinase pathway dynamics in single cells across many conditions. Through this technology one is able to evaluate the patterning and homeostasis of the cells and tell when they are out of alignment. Through the use of this technology the architecture of the human colon can also be studied and evaluated.

Since the colon is responsible for waste removal in the body and the body’s overall health, being able to evaluate the architecture of the colon could be a great advancement in treating issues related to the colon. Some diseases associated with the colon are colorectal cancer, colonic polyps, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome.

One key finding from these studies is the Erk waves signaling activity. The Erk activity can control the nodes and stem cell markers, which in can in turn affect the body’s ability to properly digest food and turn it into waste.
