Methods and Apparatus for Microscopic Imaging of Eye

Case ID:

This technology is a low-cost microscopic imaging device that captures cellular level images for diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.

The National Eye Institute estimates that over 4 million people in the US had some type of vision impairment in 2010, and this number will rise to 7 million by 2030. The most severe eye conditions require rapid diagnosis and treatment to minimize tissue damage and ongoing vision loss.

This technology has the potential to improve the speed and accuracy at which eye diseases are diagnosed, and can become a standard eye imaging tool in a wide range of healthcare settings, from specialist clinics to rural clinics. The low cost and ease of image acquisition also makes the technology ideal for the use of telemedicine, where the eye can be imaged in a clinic without the diagnostic expertise, and then read remotely by an expert reader.
